Ghosts - Ladytron
The song is simple and comes off as sort of "dry" to me, but in the best way. It sounds desolate, like you were left in a winter storm. It also offers me a witchy vibe that I just love. If it sounds familiar it's because Ladytron has been featured on a plethora of video games raging from Sims 3 to Need for Speed Undercover with plenty of others in-between.
There's a ghost in me who wants to say "I'm sorry doesn't mean I'm sorry."
Fantastic Negrito - "Lost in a Crowd"
There's this effortless cool to Fantastic Negrito. He jokes about no one having his name then belts out a soulful honest piece. I can't believe his unsigned. There's this life that comes out of him when he preforms. His movements are so sporadic and you can feel every word he says. He is soul and blues, bursting with heart. I'm going to throw in a little bonus - check out "Honest Man" from him as well (listen here).
Lost in a crowd you feel your thoughts out loud, lost in the wilderness of the sound.
Hozier - "In a Week"
Michigan has been unbelievably cold lately so, I've been searching for comfort. Hozier is just that for me. His voice is like whiskey, providing some strange internal warmth. This has been my least favourite song off his album for some time now, which is not to say I don't like it. Recently I've taken a likening to listening to it live. The raw beauty of his voice coupled with the darkness of this song has a rather soothing effect. If you don't listen to Hozier, you need to.
I have never known peace like the damp grass that yields to me. I have never known hunger like
these insects that feast on me.
these insects that feast on me.
Keaton Henson - "Sarah Minor"
Every time the weather chills I feel this need for Keaton Henson in my life. Everyone I've introduced to him has fallen in love on the first note. He's so sweet and there's a charm to the way his voice shakes. His music sounds vulnerable, as if he was telling you some honest truth he's kept inside of himself for too long.
Your skin's sheet white & your arms carry scars. Your hair isn't clean much, your lungs
black with tar and God you love to argue you can't play guitar.
The Greeting Committee - "Hands Down"
My boyfriend left for the year in August to finish out school. We've had distance between us for most of the relationship so I've been sappier than normal. This song has made my heart swell and sing. It's a fun indie pop love song that makes me want to dance around despite the subject matter. It's undoubtedly sweet and I've been putting on repeat more times than I'd like to admit.
Like a nightmare in an empty bed with you its like I'm coming home again.
