tUnE-yArDs - "Gangsta"
I've been jamming to this non-stop. Even when it's not playing, it's on permanent loop in my brain. After listening to a track by track breakdown of the album I've become obsessed. I can't believe how much thought went into every distorted synth pop beat. This is direct commentary on cultural appropriation and I'm so into it.

What's a boy to do if he'll never be a gangsta? Anger in his heart but he'll never be a gangsta.

Elvis Depressedly - "Ease"
This trio is often called "gloomcore" or "bummer pop" which honestly, are terms I love. I feel like they're oddly fitting for them. They have this dreamy indie sound like you mixed Xanax and wine before popping on their album and now their lyrics are just swimming around in your head.

I will rot away until there's nothing to judge. Would you ease up on me? Crystalline angel voices flooding my blood. Would you ease up on me?

Genevieve- "The Enemy"
I have a confession, I'm in love with Genevieve Schatz. I actually proposed to her back in 2011 when she was in Company of Thieves. She said I was cute, so I would say it went pretty well. No recording can compare to the raw power of her voice live. She floats around when she sings and when she goes into the whisper tones it's magical. I have no idea how someone with that vocal range doesn't get more recognition.

All the colours fade to white like the nightmares of my youth. Bring the fairytale to life, there's a monster in the room.

Melanie Martinez - "Sippy Cup"
I've been with Melanie since the beginning so I was hyped that her new album was finally being released. This video is essentially a prequel to "Dollhouse" and it's one of those songs that stays stuck in my head no matter how hard I try to get it out. If you like dark bubblegum pop, this is for you. I'm looking at you Marina and the diamonds fans. (Bonus: she covered "Starring Role")

Blood still stains when the sheets are washed. Sex don't sleep when the lights are off. Kids are still depressed when you dress them up & syrup is still syrup in a sippy cup.

Chet Faker - "No Diggity"
This really doesn't even count but on the off chance you haven't heard this before, you're welcome. This is one of my favourite covers of all time and it felt wrong to not include it. Chet Faker has this warmth to his voice that's unparalleled. The acoustic version of this is infinitely better than the studio. Give me smoke and whiskey soul voices every day of the week.

She's got class and style. Seen knowledge by the mile. Baby never act wild Very low key on the profile.
